No one knows how to contact him and every so often he sends back babies. Babies that have no family and the maids at his house have to take care of them. There are three girls : Posey, Patella and Pauline. Each have their own dreams and their own likes and dislikes.

One is into ballet, the other the theatre and the last cars. They all grow up side by side and of course they all have their arguments and moments to shine in.

Soon though, when the professor doesn’t come back after a long time, money is getting tight and they have to sell the house even after all their efforts to earn money such as having boarders and all.

But when they have to sell the house, what will happen to them all and where will they go? Will they still be able to pursue their dreams? And what has happened to the old professor? Will he ever return?

I found that this book had me guessing the whole time reading it and you are always wondering what has happened to the professor and that made me want to read the book more to find out the ending.

It’s funny to see the way they all get along even though they all like different things and how you grow fond of them and understand why they did certain things. I found in some ways that the ending was a bit sad. Not crying sad but in some ways sad all the same.

I would recommend this book to over 9 year old. Older kids such as teenagers might like to read it as well. People who like adventure books might find this book slow pace, and people who like really sad books are looking in the wrong direction.

Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield was also made into a movie.
